Get your skin glowing with this DIY Manuka Honey Face Mask

If you've been paying any sort of attention to your Instagram feed lately, you will be well aware that Face Masks are all the rage. If you're wanting to try out making your own face mask, you can’t go past a Honey mask. This DIY Manuka Honey face mask will get your skin glowing while simultaneously providing your skin with ridiculous amounts of hydration, dealing with acne and brightening your skin.

Why include Manuka Honey in your DIY mask?

“It actively fights or destroys bacteria,” explains dermatologist Dendy Engelman, M.D.. That means it kills off bacteria that can infect pores and cause acne, leading to fewer breakouts.

It might also make your zits look less red and, well, angry: "Its anti-inflammatory effects can decrease acne inflammation," says Karen Hammerman, M.D., of Schweiger Dermatology Group.

Manuka honey can help slough away dead skin cells, says Hammerman keeping them from clogging your pores and causing blackheads and whiteheads.

The soothing and hydrating properties of the sweet stuff can also heal existing pimples, and it can help speed up recovery from old acne scars, says New York City dermatologist Arash Akhavan, M.D., founder of the Dermatology and Laser Group. (

The addition of turmeric in this mask will temporarily stain your face if you’re pale (overnight, not for days) unless you mix in a few drops of milk or yogurt to the mask act as a barrier. It can also stain clothing, so grab an old shirt, clear your schedule for the rest of the day and get ready for glowing skin.

In a small glass bowl combine:

  • 1 teaspoon full fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon Manuka honey
  • 1 - 2 drops tea tree essential oil (do not add more)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder (WARNING: no more to avoid temporary staining)

How to: Stir briskly until smooth and creamy and apply to skin with the back of a spoon. Smooth out with your fingertips and immediately wash your hands to prevent staining. Leave mask on for 20 minutes.

Massage an additional teaspoon of yogurt to soften the dried mask and rinse well with warm water. Shrink your pores by running an ice cube over your skin afterward, and apply moisturizer.
